Halo: Fall of Reach by Eric Nylund

After playing Halo 2 for a few weeks, I decided it might be fun to do some light reading. Usually, whenever you read a book that is based on a movie or video game you will end up with an easy summer read.

I really enjoyed Eric Nylund's Fall of Reach which creates a back-story for the first Halo video game. The story begins with how the Spartan's were created. You journey through their genetic and physical alterations along with their combat training.

You get to see more Spartans than just the Master Chief found in the Halo video games. And then you get to see their destruction.

Nylund does a fantastic job creating characters and their surroundings. As you read the book you can't help but imagine what this vision would look like on the big screen.

The Fall of Reach is the title of an event where the alien Covenant, locate and destroy a military planet named Reach. Nylund goes to great detail while not being slow or boring when it comes to the ground and space battles.

The story ends right as the first Halo video game begins.

I can't wait to read the next book, Halo: The Flood.
