Blessed Child by Ted Dekker

They have re-released one of Ted Dekker's earliest novels with a new cover.

Blessed Child has the orphaned boy who grows up in a monastery with little or no contact with the outside world. He is innocence pure and simple. What happens when he's taken out to explore the real world?

When it is discovered that he can heal, forces both good and evil want this boy.

Ted Dekker weaves a fantastic tale here. You have supernatural thriller meets mild romance meets inspirational.

The book's co-author, Bill Bright adds his own afterward to nail it home for those who weren't able to pick up on the nuances throughout the story.

You'll be entertained by the story and challenged by the subtle ideas about who we are in Christ. This book was written early on in Dekker's career when he would stick with the evangelical pulse of a story. Later on he would dive more into the mainstream publishing world and open more readers to his style.

If you enjoy books with overtly religious overtones, you'll dive into this one with relish (and maybe mustard...)

My Mama and Me by Crystal Bowman and Teri McKinley

This is a nice book to read with your child. There are twenty-five rhyming devotions spanning a number of topics to open discussions about God, Jesus and our relationship with Him.

It makes a nice bedtime activity as you can read two or three devotions before bedtime. They are short enough to keep your son or daughter's attention and the pictures are eye-catching.

The book is wide enough so both you and your child can see the pages without feeling squished.

Each devotion is followed by a Bible verse, a prayer suggestion, and a fun activity to do that reinforces the idea. This kind of rhyming book is a fantastic way to learn to pray with your family. It's great at teaching kids simple prayer ideas.

My wife and son have enjoyed reading this just before bedtime; it's simply a comfortable, inviting devotional book.

You'll Get Through This by Max Lucado

I really needed this book at this point.

How many of you have heard endless messages on the life of Joseph? Sold into slavery from brothers who hated him, lied about and thrown into jail. We've all heard this right? But Max Lucado has a way with words that brings this right into your face with so much grace.

Inside you'll find fifteen chapters about Joseph that then seamlessly applies to your own situation. Followed by questions you can use personally or in a group.

Who else has gone through problems? Who else has experienced awful situations? Everyone has right? And everyone will come away from this read with a little bit more sunshine in your life.

Lucado is right on the money, once again, with the clever stories and supplemental heart-warming applications.

He touches on the pitfalls as well as the times when we feel like God is absent.

If you've ever gone through hardships, you'll want to read this book. If you know of someone struggling right now, you'll want to get them this book.
