Fortress of Mist by Sigmund Brouwer

It's difficult to start a series at book 2. But seeing as this was a free copy, we'll give it a go.

You'll get caught up in the detail of this Brouwer tale. He knows how to weave a world together and get readers to invest early. Stick with the story and you will not be disappointed.

This is the second book in the Merlin's Immortal series. And if that title gives you any indication as to what kind of a world you'll be jumping into, have no fear.

You'll love the twists and unexpected turns throughout the story. Even with an overarching title with the name Merlin involved, this is an original tale.

If you have not read book one, you will be spoiled by reading this book first.

This is a book aimed at young adults (think even tweeners) but anyone can enjoy this fantastic world.

The Canary List by Sigmund Brouwer

Like many of Brouwer's books, The Canary List starts off very slowly. In the age of adrenaline thrillers, his books have been shut simply because people don't have the patience to wait it out.

What would you do if a girl came to your house and begged you to help her?

This is the entry point for a great book to keep you thinking and sharing the ideas with your friends long after you've finished.

You'll go for a journey all over the world as you look to figure out what exactly is up with this girl.

You will feel as if you are beside her as she goes through such horrific situations. Some are fantastic but that's okay because this is fiction.

This book is a wonderful conversation piece when finished.

Flight of Shadows by Sigmund Brouwer

Sigmund Brouwer places you in the middle of a story already taking place. Flight of Shadows is the sequel to Broken Angel but you won't be lost if you haven't read it.

At first things might be confusing as you read about Invisibles, Industrials, Illegals an Influentials but Brouwer reveals details in a timely fashion that will leave you hooked throughout the story.

Caitlyn has left her safe but repressive home of Appalachia. There is something weird about her DNA and a number of organizations are interested in obtaining her. Caitlyn runs into a magician named Razor whom she's not sure if she can trust.

The setting is an apocalyptic future for the United States and if you're outside a city's walls, your life isn't worth spit.

Brouwer strings you along with rabbit trails and false leads so you will not know how things will end until you turn the last page. Whenever you think you have all the characters figured out, you'll hit a fork in the road.

Sigmund Brouwer is skilled at suspense. You will enjoy this story.
